Baptism is the first Sacrament we receive as Catholics. It is the foundation through which we receive all the other Sacraments. With this in mind, the Catholic Church gives great attention to this Sacrament.
The Sacrament of Baptism is celebrated on the first and third Sundays of the month at 1:30pm. Registered parishioners who are awaiting the birth of a child are invited to contact the parish office during regular weekday office hours to schedule an appointment with one of the parish priests.
Please bring the following documentation when meeting with the parish priest:
GUIDELINES FOR THOSE BECOMING SPONSORS FOR BAPTISM & CONFIRMATION
It is a great honor and privilege to be a sponsor for Baptism or Confirmation. The role of a godparent is a sacred duty. You become the “other parent” in the ways of faith. That is why the Church requires sponsors to be practicing Catholics, 16 years of age or older ( 14 years old in the Archdiocese of NY) having received Confirmation and are living a good Christian moral life. If a sponsor is married, that person must be in a valid Catholic marriage. One sponsor is required for Confirmation. Two sponsors are customary for Baptism, in which case one must be a male and the other a female.
If you are to receive a sponsor certificate from one of the parish priests, the individual must be a current parishioner, (you need to be registered at least 6 months for a sponsor certificate to be issued) and known to the priest as being a practicing Catholic, attending Mass regularly. Those persons away at college, graduate school or in the military should seek a certificate from their campus minister or chaplain. It is important for all individuals to be active members of their local Catholic faith communities.
A baptized non- Catholic may replace the 2nd baptism sponsor as a Christian Witness. A Catholic cannot act as a Christian Witness. A non-Christian cannot act as a Christian Witness. Former Catholics may not be a Sponsor.
If you are in need of a sponsor certificate please see one of the priests after any of our weekend Masses.
